Visa is a multinational financial services company originally founded in the United States. The company offers electronic funds transfers worldwide, primarily through Visa-branded credit, debit, prepaid, gift, and wallet cards. The company’s approach to Web 3 in recent years has been increasingly remarkable, and it now appears that the company is interested in going further.

Visa began interacting with web3 and blockchain companies a few years ago. The brand often makes its debit cards available to credit exchanges, which can then create cryptocurrency cards. This type of card is used to make transactions by paying with the balance stored in cryptocurrency on exchanges. Visa seems to want to go further and has filed two new trademark applications related to blockchain..

Patents will focus on:

  • Digital transaction management. And virtual transactions and cryptocurrencies.
  • Digital currency + Cryptocurrency wallets.
  • NFT + virtual goods.
  • Offering virtual environments and more.

Not much more has been disclosed about the patents, as they have not yet been approved, but it appears that Visa wants to start offering financial services related to digital assets in their own right. Visa also seems interested in developing a metaverse, or providing tools that work within these digital worlds. The multinational corporation could develop cryptocurrency payment gateways for third-party metaverses, such as Meta.
