The Crypto Gibraltar Festival 2022 will be held Sept. 22-24 and will bring together the world of crypto business and the new world of the metaverse.

Pete Burgess, organizer of the festival, says, “The foundation of Gibraltar as a financial jurisdiction is regulation, which is often seen as old world, but Gibraltar is also a facilitator and a hotbed of cutting-edge innovation, especially in the payments industry.”

He continues, “In a way, Gibraltar is a microcosm of the DeFi / CeFi debate. It introduced the first DLT regulatory framework that attracted many of the world’s largest cryptocurrency operators, such as Bitso, eToroX, and LMAX Digital, yet many cryptocurrency purists will argue that this regulation encourages centralization, just the opposite of the original cryptocurrency philosophy. It is this “tension” that produces great debates and content on the Crypto Gibraltar Festival stage.”

This year, the festival will attract more than 1,000 people and will be based in a specially created “Crypto Village” next to the Gibraltar airport. It will feature a 700-seat theater, an exhibition area, an NFT gallery and a networking room.

“The main reason people attend conferences is to network. Many people go to conferences and never set eyes on a stage. ” says Burgess. “Crypto Gibraltar is primarily a networking event and is structured to facilitate that. We have two half days of serious conference sessions, but we also have a purpose-built networking lounge and create enough time slots throughout the day to make productive use of it.”

Crypto Gibraltar also makes sure that delegates enjoy their evenings. In 2021, the Friday party was held in a cave inside the Rock of Gibraltar with a sound and light show mimicking the rock formation. This year the theme of meeting different worlds will continue, but this time it is the real world and the metaverse.

“We will create an immersive experience in the metaverse where we will broadcast DJs performing in a club in the metaverse, but in the real world,” Burgess explains. “We’re collaborating with DJenerates – NFT’s premier collection that celebrates electronic music and features the best DJs and artists on the TOP 100 DJ list – and to top it off we’ll also have Hipworth – the founder of this business who incidentally is also an NFT artist – playing live.”

The experience will allow attendees to experience both worlds at once, with musicians on screen and access to the metaverse via cell phone. Those in attendance that evening will be able to interact with people in the metaverse, but also see them in the real world and connect with them. “We think it will be a world first,” Burgess concludes.
